As a general guide, your rug should be large enough to ground your furniture while still showcasing some of the floor around it. And if you’re unsure, it’s almost always better to size up, nothing makes a room feel more off balance than a rug that’s too small. Living Room Guide (Indoor & Outdoor)

For a truly elevated look, select a living room rug generous enough to accommodate your entire furniture setting, leaving a graceful 20cm border of rug revealed around the edges.
